William I. Walton

William I. Walton 68, husband of Donna (Luke) Walton of Market Street, Ipswich, passed away October 16, 2015 at Brigham Manor in Newburyport following a short battle with cancer.  

Born in Exeter NH on July 9, 1947, he was the son of the late Herbert and Ruth (Bessom) Walton.  Bill was raised  and attended schools in Kingston and Northwood N.H.  He later graduated from Newburyport High School and went on to study agriculture at Essex Agricultural Institute.  Throughout the years Bill had worked in many fields, whether it  was  landscaping, animal inspector, mechanic, welder, farm manager, or machine operator. He was always working with skilled  hands. A man of many interests Bill also enjoyed politics. He served as selectman in Ipswich and on the Ipswich  Republican Committee. One of his lifelong interests was auto racing having owned,  driven and worked on many racecars since his teenage years.  His greatest lifelong passion was farming.  He  raised various animals,  grew flowers and vegetables many of which he showed at local fairs, sold at farm stands or farmerís markets. He was  instrumental in planning and development of the Ipswich Farmer's Market.  He will be remembered as a man who thoroughly enjoyed being outdoors.  

In addition to his wife Donna of  forty-eight years he is survived by ; two sons,  Scott Walton and his wife Julie of NH; Mark Walton and his wife Cara of NH; a daughter Victoria Walton of Gloucester; his grandchildren Abigail, Emily, Alexander, Gabriel, and Zachariah of NH; brothers Gregory Walton and his wife Pamela of NH, Peter Walton of NH; a sister Jacqueline Walton of NY  and  his mother in law Dorothy Luke of Beverly.  He was predeceased by his brothers Jonathan and Jefferey Walton. 

Private arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
