Wendell P.
Crawford Jr., husband of Rose Mary (Boyle) Crawford of Clark
Road, Ipswich passed away on January 21 2011, at the age of 75.
Born in Medford
July 19, 1935, he was the son of the late Wendell P. and Anna
(Walsh) Crawford. An all New England hockey goalie from Malden
Catholic High School, he went on to attend and graduate in 1957
from Providence College, where he was the goalie for the
Division 1 PC Friars. He served with the U.S. Marines for two
years then returned to college earning masters degrees in
english, math and history. For thirty-eight years he was
employed as a high school math teacher at Malden High School.
When he retired at the age of sixty-two, he entered law school
at the Mass School of Law, graduated and passed the bar. He has
been an Ipswich resident since 1965, raising five children and
putting them all through college.
In addition to
his wife of forty-seven years, he is survived by his children,
Philip Crawford of Ipswich, Maureen Carroll and her husband
Brendan of Framingham, Brenda Stewart and her husband Michael of
RI, Susan Donato and her husband Joseph of Topsfield, and Julie
Macdonald and her husband Bruce of Rowley. He is also survived
by eleven grandchildren, his sister Elaine Crawford of
Charlestown, and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of
the late Barbara Beasley and David Crawford. His family loved
him dearly, and would like to thank him for his strength, his
sense of humor, and his love.
A Funeral Mass
will be celebrated on Monday February 14, 9 am in Our Lady of
Hope Church, Pineswamp Road, Ipswich, followed by interment in
the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are
respectfully welcomed. Arrangements are by the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions in his name may be made to the American Heart
Association, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
