Virginia (Bowker)
Allen, 92, long time resident of 67 Argilla Road, Ipswich, died
Wednesday, January 25, 2012 in the Beverly Hospital following her
brief illness.
Born in Arlington
January 5, 1920, daughter of the late Lloyd Ashley and Iva (Gowall)
Bowker, she was raised in Arlington and was graduate of Quincy
public schools. Married in 1941, the Allens soon built their house,
made their home and raised their family on Argilla Road. For many of
these years she was employed as a waitress, working in several
North Shore restaurants, and as a travel coordinator for Far Fetch
Transportation of Essex. She was later employed as a clerk at
Ipswich Flooring and the Ipswich Cleaners. Mrs. Allen will be fondly
remembered by many new moms of the North Shore who she had
throughout the years gifted with embroidered hats, booties and
blankets.
Mrs. Allen was a
past member of the Ipswich AMVETS Post #201 Auxiliary and was a
communicant of St. Joseph Church and Our Lady of Hope Parish of
Ipswich.
She is survived by
a daughter, Brenda J. Allen and her husband Robert Wransky of
Bristol, CT and three sons, J. Barry Allen and his wife Anne of
Berwick, ME, Bradley J. Allen of Big Pine Key, FL and Bruce J. Allen
of Ipswich. She was predeceased by three brothers and five sisters.
Her funeral
service will be held Saturday 10 am in the Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home, 6 High Streeet, Ipswich followed by interment in the Spring
Street Cemetery Essex. Visiting hours are Friday 4 to 8 pm. Memorial
