Simmonds, Jr. 83, husband of Lois (Whidden) Simmonds of East
Main Street, Gloucester passed peacefully from this life on
July 31, 2014 at the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington.
Born in Mt. Kisco,
NY, May 23, 1931 into the Naval family of the late Capt. Thomas
H. and Ellice A. (Smith) Simmonds. He attended schools in
Virginia, California and Panama, graduating from the University
of Virginia and completing his education with a master’s degree
in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. Mr.
Simmonds was a Korean Era veteran serving in the Navy from
which he retired as a reserve lieutenant.
In 1960 he married
Lois Whidden of Worcester, and together they raised three
daughters. He was employed his entire career with Bell
Telephone Laboratories stationed in North Andover until he
moved to Gloucester in his retirement.

Bill Gorman of Essex, Peggy who is married to Tom Duff of
Essex and Lois “Beth” formerly married to Bill Bairstow both of
Gloucester. As a consequence, he has taught practical skills to
nine grandchildren: Tom, Jamie and Liam Gorman; Eliot, Lindsey
and Jenny Duff; Bob, Foster and Aiden Bairstow. He also leaves

with Military Honors will be held 2 pm Thursday, August 7,
