Thomas D. Flanagan

Thomas D. Flanagan, 77, devoted husband of Patricia A. (Reynolds) Flanagan, died Monday July 2, 2018 in his Ipswich home following his long illness.

Born in Portland, ME, son of the late Thomas W. and Regina C. (McCurdy) Flanagan, he was raised in Maine and Beverly, where he attended Beverly Trade School graduating in 1958. During the Vietnam Era  he served an enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps. For several years he was employed as a machinist, most recently for over forty years he was employed as sales executive with the Prudential Insurance Company. In retirement he very much enjoyed his years sailing with friends in the Caribbean, woodworking, various home projects and traveling in his RV with his wife and dog “Tasha.” He will be remembered by many for his wit and his many shared words of wisdom. He was a member of the John T. Heard Masonic Lodge AF&AM Ipswich.

In addition to his wife Patricia he is survived by a son, Thomas J. Flanagan and his wife Charlotte of CT; a daughter, Kristin H. Flanagan of NH; a step daughter, Christine Matthews and her husband Wayne of Danvers; five grandchildren, Ian, Noble and Honour Flanagan, and Adam and Jillian Matthews, and two brothers, Michael F. Flanagan of FL and Edward L. Flanagan of NV.

His funeral will be held 9 am Monday, July 9 from the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich followed by the celebration of a Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Our Lady of Hope Church, Pineswamp Rd., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 5 to 8 pm. Interment with Military Honors will be held at a later date in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
