Sonya
L. (Barowy) Gubicza, 67 of Mayfair Court, Ipswich and formerly
of Chestnut Street, Hamilton, died Saturday December 6, 2008 in
the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers following her long
illness.
Born
in Ipswich September 27, 1941, daughter of the late John and
Lillian (Chirmack) Barowy, she was raised in Ipswich and was a
1958 graduate of Ipswich High School and a graduate of Green
Mountain College in Vermont. In addition to her raising her
family she was employed for many years as a secretary and
receptionist, most recently employed at CPI Manufacturing of
Beverly and also worked part time at Brooksby Village in
Peabody. She was a terrific cook who enjoyed home gardening and
travel. She toured Europe with her daughter and much of New
England with her friends. She’ll be remembered by her family and
friends as a woman of strong will.
She
is survived by two sons, David Gubicza of Raliegh Durham, NC and
Stephen Gubicza and his wife Lisa of Ipswich; a daughter, Sharon
L. Savage and her husband Timothy of Newbury; six grandchildren,
Ryan and Andrew Gubicza both of NC, Kaleigh and Kihana Gubicza
both of Ipswich and Jessica and Erin Savage both of Newbury; a
brother, John “Jack” Barowy of Ipswich and a sister, Olga
Mastrangelo of Ipswich.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich. In lieu of flowers
memorial contributions in her name may be to the Kaplan Family
Hospice House, 78 Liberty St., Danvers, MA 01923.
