Robin (Robertta
Conant) Foster passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by
family on November 11, 2010. She was the beloved wife of the late
George A. Foster.
She was born
on March 15, 1923 to Marion (Allen) and Ray L. Conant in So. Berwick,
Maine. She began school in
Yarmouth, Maine, and then moved to Portland,
Maine, where in due time she
graduated from Deering High
School, Class of 1940, on
the day the French surrendered to
Germany. Prior to and after
graduation she worked in the Casco Bank & Trust Co., Portland,
Maine, in various
capacities. In 1944 she joined the United States W. R. Marine Corps
and was stationed in Washington,
DC, working as an auditor in
the Paymaster Department. When the war was over, she was discharged
in 1946 and returned to employment with Casco Bank & Trust Company.
From 1947-1950 she attended the University of
Maine,
Orono, majoring in Business Administration. In 1950 she transferred
to Boston University
and graduated with a BA in Economics. In 1948 she was married to
George A. Foster with whom she shared 58 years of marriage. From
1951-1952 she was employed at the First National Bank of
Boston in Boston. In 1952 she and
her husband moved to Ipswich,
Massachusetts. From 1979 to 1986 she and her husband lived in
Elgin, Illinois where he was employed by Milk Specialties Co.
Ipswich has been home since then. Robin had an avid interest in
sand and rock collecting with an unparalleled collection secured
from around the globe. In addition she was a devoted lover of
flowers, fashion design and knowledge. She was a member of the
Methodist Church Alter Guild for many years. She was active in the
Girl Scouts in the 1970s. She was a participating member of the
Town & Country Garden Club since it’s formation in 1965 serving in
many capacities.
She is
survived by three sons, George A. Foster Jr. of Ipswich, Glenn A.
Foster of Newbury and Robert C. Foster and wife, Laura Foster of
Wayne, New Jersey, a daughter Holly Foster of Amesbury,
Massachusetts and grandchildren Ashley and Adam Johnson, Andrew and
Nasha Foster, Ian and Heather Foster and Ryann and Robert Jr.
Foster, as well as a sister, Elaine Arsenault and special niece
Jeanne A. of Springvale, Maine.
Visiting hours
will be on Tuesday November 16, 4:00 to 8:00 pm in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and
friends are respectfully welcomed. A private funeral service with
military honors will be held in the Cowles
Memorial
Cemetery, Ipswich next to her beloved husband George. For directions
