Robert J. “Bob” Perry

Robert J. “Bob” Perry, 74, loving husband of Susan A. (Mullins) Perry of Warner Road, Ipswich, died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 in the Lahey Medical Center, Burlington following his brief illness.

Born in Waltham September 14, 1939, son of the late Carmen F. and Margaret L. (Powers) Perry, he was raised in Waltham and was a 1957 graduate of Waltham High School. Following graduation he served an enlistment peacetime with the U.S. Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Reserves. He continued his education by attending Bentley College. Bob and Susan married in 1992 and made Ipswich their home. For more than thirty years Bob was employed as a construction laborer and construction supervisor with Labor International Local #560 from which he retired in 2002. Bob was an avid stamp collector. He enjoyed boating, fishing and kayaking in the local waters and his trips to Mohegan Sun in CT with a good friend. After retirement, he found much enjoyment by spending his days working and lunching with his son Bob Jr.  Most of all, as a loving and devoted grandfather, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow and participate in their many activities. He truly enjoyed being with his family and friends no matter where or when. He was a member of the Ipswich Sportsman Club and the Knights of Columbus Carrolton Council #498 of Ipswich. Bob will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children Robert J. Perry, Jr. and his wife Mary of Ipswich, Aaron Tani and his wife Ivy of CA, Sheri Reedy and her husband Craig of Ipswich, Tara Fowler and her husband David of Ipswich, and Genevieve Michaud and her husband Scott of NH; nine beloved grandchildren, Kaitlin and Tucker Reedy, Joanna Perry, Hailey and Hayden Fowler, Emma, Lily and Tommy Michaud and Mason Tani. He is also survived by his brother Carmen Perry and his wife Marie; his sister Nancy Gilchrist and her husband Steve all of Waltham and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Thomas Perry formerly of Waltham.

His funeral service will be 10 am Saturday, September 20 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by interment with Military Honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours will be Friday 5 to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
