Phyllis M. Downing, 86, of
Falmouth, Maine, died February 24, 2010 in the Hawthorne House,
Freeport, Maine following her long illness.
Born in Lowell,
December
30, 1923, the only child of the late Howard C. and Ruth D.
(Dubois) Downing, she was raised on High Street, Ipswich and was
a 1942 graduate of Ipswich High School and a 1947 graduate of
Simmons College. For several years
she was employed as an librarian at Agnes Scott College in
Georgia before going to work in 1947 as a secretary for the
F.B.I. in Washington, DC. She retired in
1984 as an administrative assistant and relocated to Falmouth,
Maine.
She was a member of the Society
of Former F.B.I. Women.
She is survived by three
cousins, Edward D. Sprague of Vernon, VT, Cynthia V. Knutson of
San Ramon, CA, and James Burtner of
Hampstead, NH.
Her funeral service was held
Friday February 26 in the North Cemetery, Billerica.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Whittier-porter
Funeral Home of Ipswich.
