Nikoleta Helen Geanakos
Nikoleta Helen Geanakos, 101, formerly of Washington Street, Ipswich,
passed away peacefully Sunday, August 7, 2016 in the Masconomet
Healthcare Center, Topsfield.
in Ipswich July 3, 1915 she was the daughter of the later Argerios and
Stavroula (Niarhos) Giannakountzos. Helen was raised in Ipswich, where
she attended public schools, and lived her entire life. As a young
woman she went to work at Haywood Hosiery in Ipswich where she was
employed for thirty-two years. She later was employed by the Ipswich
School Department as a teacherís aide while also working with her sister
Alyce at Alyceís Beauty Lounge in Ipswich.
was a lifelong member of the Ipswich Greek Orthodox Church where for
many years she served as the secretary for the Greek Womanís Melissa
greatly admired and adored by her family. She lived a long and eventful
life and her only regret was "she couldn't do it all over again". She
was a very nurturing and caring person who loved and helped raise all
her young family members. Her very positive outlook on life will be
greatly missed by her family, friends and acquaintances.
Helen is survived by
nephews Anthony George of Ipswich, Soterios (Sam) Geldis of Bexley, OH
and Georgia Mavrakis of Santa Clara, CA along with numerous relatives
from the Moutevelis, Johnson and Alexopoulos families. She
was the sister of the late Vasiliki (Bessie) Koulouris formerly of
Watertown, Katherine Georgakopoulos of Ipswich, Georgia Geldis of
Columbus, OH and Alexandra (Alyce) Geanakos of Ipswich.
funeral Service will be held Saturday August 13, 9 am from the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich followed by a
service at 10 am in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox
Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Ipswich. Interment will be in the New Highland
Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
Visiting hours will be Friday 4 to 6 pm.
