Nancy L. (Heath) Maguire, 66, of High Street, Ipswich, died of
pancreatic cancer Wednesday September 24, 2008 in
the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Adopted shortly after her birth in Miami, FL in 1942, she was raised
by an aunt and uncle, the Late Roscoe and Frances (Pierce) Oakes, in
Landaff, Lisbon and Franconia, NH. She attended local schools,
including Landaff’s one-room Blue School, and graduated from the
Littleton High School Class of 1960 and from Simmons College in
1964.
Following a two year stint with a small publisher in Westchester
County, NY, she spent her entire book publishing career in various
marketing positions at Boston’s Houghton Mifflin Company, retiring
from the company’s Trade Division in 2004 after thirty-five years of
employment.
A
fan of the Red Sox and the Patriots, she enjoyed boating, skiing,
gardening, reading and the company of friends, family and her dog
Herbie. She was an active member of the the Gloucester Power
Squadron, serving on various offices and taking many courses, from
basic boating to celestial navigation, attaining a grade level of
Navigator. In her later years she traveled as much as possible,
touring areas including China, Greece, Costa Rica, Mexico, Machu
Picchu, Peru and Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands, and the National Parks
of the US.
She
is survived by a brother, Ford Hubbard and his wife Nancy of East
Burke, VT; three nieces, Elizabeth Hubbard and Michelle Barton of
Sutton, VT and Patricia Hubbard of Linthicum, MD and their families;
a cousin, Nancy Heinemann and her husband Michael of St. Johnsbury,
VT; in-laws Dale and Bonnie Maguire of Ipswich, her very good friend
Jane Beaupre of Rowley, and other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A
gathering to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at a later date. In
lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Kaplan
Family Hospice House, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers, MA 01923
Arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home of Ipswich.
