Mary Ellen (Bakula) Mackey
of Ipswich passed away Saturday, May 28, 2011 after an extended
illness. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Anthony Mackey
with whom she shared fifty-nine years of marriage.
Born in Ipswich on September
3, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Helen J. (Kuniey)
Bakula. She worked for the Ipswich Mills and later as an Inspector
for Sylvania Lighting Products of Ipswich. She left Sylvania in 1956
to raise her family.
Married on October 20, 1951,
the Mackeys raised their family in Ipswich where she was a
communicant of Sacred Heart Church and Our Lady of Hope Parish. She
enjoyed listening to classical music, and liked to work in
her garden and cook for family and friends. She will always be
remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who
loved spending time with her family and grand children.
She leaves two sons, Dennis
Mackey and his wife Elizabeth of Hamilton and Douglas Mackey and his
wife Denise of Hawaii. She was greatly loved by her grandchildren
Steven, Christopher and Jason Mackey of Hamilton. She leaves many
loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two
sisters, Blanche (wife of Joseph) Kmiec and Elsie (wife of Albert)
Lemire, both formerly of Ipswich along with a brother Walter
(husband of Alice) Bakula formerly of Ipswich.
Her funeral will be held
Wednesday, June 1, 8 am from Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High
Street, Ipswich followed by the celebration of a Mass of Christian
Burial in Our Lady of Hope Church, Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Family
and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Tuesday 4
to 8 pm. Interment will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich.
