Mary M. (MacPherson) Jewett,
101, of Upper River Road, died Thursday February 12, 2009 at
Masconomet Healthcare in Topsfield following her extended illness.
She was the wife of the late Maynard C. Jewett who died in 1981.
Born in Lynn October 29, 1907,
she was the daughter of the late Angus and Kathleen (McCall)
MacPherson. She was educated in Lynn public schools and graduated in
1925 from Lynn High
School. She worked as a
bookkeeper at General Electric in Lynn for several years, later
working at Sylvania in Salem for twelve years. Married in 1945, the
Jewetts settled in Ipswich. She was employed at Lathrop Brothers Oil
Company for many years until her retirement in 1962. She continued
bookkeeping in her retirement, working at the Caldwell Nursing home
for several years.
She was a longtime member of St
John the Baptist Catholic Church in Essex.
She is survived by three
nieces, Lee Walker of Kennebunk,
ME,
Marcia Flagg of Lynn and June Arthur of KS; and many grand-nieces
and nephews. She was the sister of the late Jessie Day, formerly of
Lynn, and sister-in-law of the late Rodney and Virgene Jewett,
formerly of Ipswich,
Her funeral
service will be held Tuesday February 17 at 10:30am in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and
friends respectfully welcomed. Interment will follow in the Highland
Cemetery, Ipswich.
