Mark J. Miller

Mark J. Miller, 53, loving husband to Martha S (Colter) Miller, passed away peacefully in his Merrimac home of ALS on September 29, 2016.

Heaven has gained an amazing man. He was a loving husband and father with a great sense of humor. For six years he lived the best life he could with ALS.  He has donated his brain and spine to Massachusetts General Hospital for research.

Born in Winchester December 11, 1962, second son to Georgette (Pagurko) Miller and the late Francis Miller (2006), he was raised in Topsfield and was a 1981 graduate of Masconomet Regional High School.  Mark followed his Dadís footsteps and became a machinist, he was employed by Truform Industries as a manufacturing engineer for many years.

His passion was hiking, Mark hiked all but four of the 4000 foot mountains in New Hampshire, and climbed many other mountains in New England and the Adirondacks. Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park, Maine was one of his favorite places, having climbed many of its trails with family and friends. Mark also spent many vacations and weekends fishing and boating at the family cottage in Maine.

In addition to his wife Martha and mother Georgette, Mark is survived by two children, son Zachary Miller of Portland Oregon and daughter Michele Miller of Farmington NH; step children,  James Blanken of Ipswich, Brandon Blanken of Savannah GA and Courtney Blanken of Andover; two brothers, Matt Miller and his wife Constance of Jay NY and Joseph Miller and his husband Barry Farrington of Somersworth NH; two sisters Michelle Miller of Peabody and Anna Connor of Fremont NH; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday October 4, 2016 4-7pm in the Whittier Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, closing with a brief service.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.  Burial will be private.

We would like to thank Compassionate Care ALS for all of their support through the past six years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to CCALS (Compassionate Care ALS) 752 W Falmouth Highway, Falmouth, MA 02540.  www.CCALS.org.
