Marjorie (Wright) Campus

Marjorie Campus, 90, longtime resident of Ipswich, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017, in her home surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John P. "Jack” Campus who died in 1981.

Born in Ipswich, she was one of five children of the late Ira E. and Nina Belle (Hutchinson) Wright. Marjorie grew up in Danvers and was valedictorian of her graduating class at Holten High School, Class of 1945, and number one in her class at Salem Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1948. Marge and Jack made Ipswich their home where they raised their six children. She worked as a registered nurse at Cable Memorial Hospital in Ipswich and retired in 1997 at the age of seventy. As a young woman she was a talented dancer. She was an accomplished seamstress and knitter and made many clothes for her children and grandchildren. She was an avid reader and a loyal Boston sports fan. In her retirement, Marjorie traveled to many parts of the world with friends. She was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Ipswich.

Marge is survived by a son, Paul Campus and his wife Mia of Putney, VT, and five daughters: Karen Campus of Ipswich, Carol Waggener and her husband John of Atlanta, GA, Patricia Butterfield of Danvers, Nancy French of Ipswich, Christine Cina and her husband Rich of Newton, NH; and eleven grandchildren: Adam Smith, Kit Normand, Nina Campus, Rebecca and Ben Waggener, Nathan and Leah Butterfield, Lyndsay and Jared French, Chloe and Riley Cina; and three great grandchildren: Jameson, Henry and Jack. She was predeceased by three brothers and a sister. 

Her funeral service will be held 11 am Monday June 19 in the Immanuel Baptist Church followed by interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Sunday 4 to 7 pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 45 Central Street, Ipswich, MA 01938 or Ipswich Caring, P.O. Box 584, Ipswich, MA 01938.
