Louise R. (Weiscopf) Johnson, 94, of
Heartbreak Road, Ipswich, wife of the late Hubert A. Johnson, died
peacefully in her home Monday February 8, 2010 following her
failing health.
Born in Brighton April 29, 1915, daughter of the late Edwin L.
and Minnie (Harris) Weiscopf, she
was raised in Brookline, Roslindale and West Roxbury. She
graduated from the Girls Latin High School after an accelerated
three year program, and from Simmons College with the Class of
1936. For more than thirty two years she was employed as a
library consultant with the New England News, the Boston
subsidiary of the American News Company and since 1968 was
employed with the Eastern Book Company of Portland, Maine.
In years past she was an avid tennis player and skier. In
addition of her love of books and literature she enjoyed home
gardening and her daily walks with her dog Sarah and her close
friends.
She was a member of the Ipswich Garden Club, Town and Country
Garden Club, Cape Ann Literary Guild, Ipswich Historical Society
and served for many years as the Friends of the Ipswich Public
Library Liason to the Trustees. She
enthusiastically volunteered her time conducting tours at the
Cranes Castle, introducing tourists to Ipswich at the Visitors
Center, and with children at the Winthrop School.
She will be remembered fondly by her many, many friends for her
energy and love of life.
An
informal afternoon to remember Louise will be held Sunday March
28, 2010, 1 to 4 pm in the Collins Room of the Ipswich Public
Library, 25 North Main Street, Ipswich. Arrangements by the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
