Lillian V. (Margetts) North, 79, of Newmarch Street, Ipswich, passed
away peacefully on December 9, 2016 in the Lahey Medical Center,
Burlington, with her family by her side.
in 1937 in Pittsfield, daughter of the late George W. and F. Viola
(Maki) Margetts, she was raised in Gardner and was a graduate of
Gardner High School with the Class of 1955. Following high school
she moved to Bermuda where she was employed as a secretary with the
1604 Engineering Squadron at the Kindley Air Force Base in St.
George. While there she married her high school sweetheart Bennett
M. North, with whom she has shared sixty-one years of marriage. They
later moved to Hialeah, FL where she enjoyed hunting and fishing in
and around the Everglades of South Florida. During these years she
taught firearm safety and marksmanship with the Tumbleweed Junior
Rifle Club of which she was a co-founder. Moving to Ipswich in 1971,
a town she loved, she volunteered for fifteen years on the
Conservation Commission. For thirteen years she served as the
chairman and in 1994 received the MACC Environmental Service Award.
was a world traveler, had many domestic talents and will be fondly
be remembered for her great smile and tenacious personality.
addition to her husband “Ben” she is survived by a daughter, Deborah
A. Gallop of GA; a son, Wayne O. North of TN; two grandchildren and
five great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late William G.
Margetts formerly of NH.
Private arrangements are under the direction of the Whittier-Porter
Funeral Home of Ipswich.
