Katherine Land "Boots" Abbott, 75 of  Virginia Beach, daughter of the late James Caleb Land and Katherine Duke Land, died Sunday January 17, 2010 at a private Nursing Home, in Virginia Beach after a long illness.

Katherine was born on November 5, 1934 in Norfolk, Va. She was a 1952 graduate of Kempsville High School and Norfolk Business College.She was married in 1955 to Charles (Chuck) E. Abbott (MGySgt, USMC) whom she met while he was stationed at Little Creek, Norfolk, VA. She was a devoted military wife for over 30 years, making their homes in many places such as: the Philippines, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Washington, DC, before retiring to Virginia Beach in 1982.

Besides her family, she loved the ocean, sewing, reading and tending her beautiful flower gardens.  Above all she treasured her family.

In addition to her husband, she leaves  two sons, James Purcell-Abbott and his wife Fran of West Neck, NC and Charles E. Abbott, Jr. and his wife Rosa of Virginia Beach; three daughters, Karen Ann Steinsberger of Hubert, NC; Deborah Lynn Powers, her husband Max of Hubert, NC  and Susan Elizabeth Tierney, her husband Timothy of Pelham, NH; nine grandchildren: Daniel, Lisa, Stacey, Jimmy Dean, Erin, Kyle, Connor, Sabrina and Christine.  Boots was the joy of her husband’s life.

Other Family Members include Sally & Richard Anderson of McLean, VA; Jeri Wayne of Falls Church, VA; Leigh & Gwen Stewart; Gene Massengill; Dorothy Whitehurst all of Norfolk, VA; Herbert & Kay Stewart of Springfield, VA; Sandra & Bill Duke and Madeline & Brian Abbott of Ipswich, MA. She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Lee Mangan and her grandson Charles Richard Powers.  Also many thanks to Comfort Care Home and the Health and Hospice staff of Chesapeake, Va. and to Aura and Tom Faustino and family. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

A private burial will be held in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
