John S. Hovey, 77,
of Merrimac, formerly longtime of 112 High Street, Ipswich, died
Sunday, September 27, 2015 in the Anna Jaques Hospital,
Newburyport following his sudden illness He was the husband of
the late Patricia E. (Dow) who died in November 2014.
Born in Ipswich
June 5, 1938 John was the only child of the late John S. and
Thurza G. (Sheppard) Hovey. He was raised in Ipswich and was a
1956 graduate of Ipswich public schools. He served a peacetime
enlistment in the U.S. Army. Married in 1960 to the late Anne
(Como), the Hoveys made their home and raised their family at
their High Street home. Remarried in 1986, he and the late
Patricia E. (Dow) resided in Salisbury and for the past ten or
more years in their late Merrimac home. John was a truck
driver, having driven his entire professional life. For many
years he was employed by Centre Trucking in North Reading and
most recently and until a recent injury, for the Cassidy Paving
Company in Stoneham.
He is survived by
two sons, Jason M. Hovey of Ipswich, Peter Beckman of NY; two
daughters, Lynda G. Weigant and her husband Dean of Ipswich,
Christine Rogers of Merrimac; six grandchildren, Justin Hovey
and Jamilyn Pinkham both of Ipswich, Danielle Weigant and Jeremy
Weigant both of ME, Jonathan and Dylan Beckman both of NY and
two great grandchildren, Bryan Weigant and Hayleigh Pinkham. He
was the father of the late Robert J. Hovey formerly of CA and
grandfather of the late Johnathan Hovey formerly of Ipswich.
service with Military Honors will be held 10 am Saturday October
3, graveside in Highland Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich.
Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are
Friday 4 to 8 pm in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High
Street, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in
