Jeanette Gould Cameron

Jeanette Gould Cameron, 88, of Crestwood Road, Ipswich, wife of the late E. Frank Cameron, died Thursday, March 14, 2013 in the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, following her long illness.

Born  January 15, 1925 in Lewiston Maine, she was the daughter of the late  Clarence N. and Doris (Manser) Gould. Jeanette’s childhood was shared with her best friend’s family for whom she worked making earmuffs, invented by that family. Jeanette’s college studies included the practice of law, earning the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence at Cumberland University. She also attended University of New Hampshire and Salem State College for her teaching degrees.

Jeanette married Frank Cameron in 1946. They lived all around New England and New York, wherever Frank's jobs in construction took them, before finally settling in Ipswich.  Frank and Jeanette purchased their present Ipswich home in 1961.  Frank and Jeanette enjoyed hunting in Magalloway Plantation, Maine where Frank grew up and where Jeanette could skillfully shoot with the best of them.  They also enjoyed boating and were charter members of the Ipswich Outboard Club.  Jeanette was an active member of the First Church in Ipswich where she taught Sunday school classes.  She supported her husband and sons as boy scouts and scout masters.  Jeanette encouraged her son Ron and other boys in the neighborhood to pursue their love of rock & roll music, opening her home and pocketbook to help make it happen.  Jeanette was a long time teacher in the Ipswich school system retiring in 1989.  She taught many grade levels, however was best known as a favorite math teacher.  Jeanette was a member of the Eastern Star.  She enjoyed many crafts that included jewelry making, knitting and crocheting and needlepoint.  Frank and Jeanette enjoyed their camper and the many summers enjoyed at campgrounds in Maine.  Jeanette traveled to Italy, Scotland and Hawaii in her retirement years.  In her later years, Jeanette cherished her canine “kids” now leaving behind Suki, her thirteen year old Pekingese.  Named by her Henderson and Doane great-grandchildren “Nani Jet”, she will be greatly missed by those who were familiar with that special twinkle in her eye and her humor.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald F. Cameron  and wife Laurie (Tedford) of Ipswich and Dennis S. Cameron of East Kingston, NH; five grandchildren,  Kristie Henderson and husband Brian of Ipswich, Callie Doane and husband Dexter of Essex,  Jillian Gallant and husband Ronny of Essex,  Cassandra Cameron of Aiken SC, Amanda Garand and husband Peter of Seabrook, NH; seven great-grandchildren,  Marley, Cameron and Hunter Henderson of Ipswich, Randall and Henry Doane of Essex and  Alexander and Andrea Garand of Seabrook, NH and a brother Gordon Gould his wife Judy of NV.

Her funeral service will be held Tuesday 11 am  in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Monday 4 to 7 pm. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Ipswich Humane Group, P.O. Box 873, Ipswich, MA 01938.
