Jean Herrick Powers

Jean Herrick Powers, 91, of Old Right Road, Ipswich died on Wednesday,
February 19, 2020 at Evolve in Rye, NH following a short illness.
She was the wife of the late Theodore Powers and daughter of the late
Charles and Lillian (Davis) Herrick. Jean was born in
Melrose and moved to Ipswich in 1938 where she grew up riding horses and
skiing all the while enjoying the countryside. She graduated from Ipswich
High School and Syracuse University, Class of 1950. Jean went
to work at The National Shawmut Bank, Boston prior to her marriage. She
and her husband Ted built a house near her parents on Old Right Road, an
area which was always home. In 1993 she donated an eleven acre portion of
her land and sold another piece to the Department of Environmental
Management which allowed the completion of the Bay Circuit Trail in
Ipswich. Aware of the importance of her land stewardship, she wanted to
preserve the beauty of the area and allow access for all to enjoy. She was
a wonderful cook, avid supporter of the Boston sports teams, excellent rug
hooker, knitter and boating enthusiast, lover of Crane Beach and a
thoughtful and kind aunt. She continued to ski all her life and
reluctantly last unbuckled her boots well into her 80s. Jean
is survived by her devoted companion David Gerry; her brothers, Richard D.
Herrick of Amesbury, John W. Herrick and his wife Vilma of Cape Elizabeth,
ME; her nieces Ann Causey, Lisa and Valari Herrick; her nephews Peter,
Charles, Christopher, Stephen, Craig and Scott Herrick.
Her funeral service will be held graveside in Linebrook Cemetery at the
convenience of the family this spring. Arrangements are under the
direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.- E-mail a
