Harold J. Nelson

Harold J. Nelson, 90, of Endicott Street, Danvers, formerly of Allen Lane, Ipswich, died of multiple health issues in the Beverly Hospital on January 28, 2018. He was the husband of the late Eleanor M. (Perkins) Nelson, with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.

Harold was born in Boston on August 28, 1927, the son of the late John C. and Alice (Paulsen) Nelson. During World War II he proudly served as a Seaman First Class in the U. S. Navy. Following his honorable discharge  Harold pursued a degree in Accounting at Bentley College. For many years he was employed by General Electric as a Cost Proposals Manager.

While raising their three children, Harold and Eleanor enjoyed creating lifelong memories that included many road trips and  family summer vacations throughout New England. For many years he enjoyed his winter months in Florida. Although Harold’s professional career focused on accounting and finance he was a self-taught carpenter and he hand built his family a home in Woburn. He was an avid golfer who spent many happy hours at his favorite course Old Newbury Golf Club in Newbury where he served as President. Harold was also an avid Red Sox fan.

He is survived by a son, Carl J. Nelson and his wife Evelyn Chu of Reading; a daughter, Deborah Nelson Snell and her husband Robert P. Snell of Scituate; four grandchildren, Kristen Nelson of New York City and her fiancé Patrick Dalton, Kara Nelson of Medford, Patrick Snell of Scituate, Margaret Snell of New York City and many  nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gladys Nelson Goldsmith and Clifford Nelson both formerly of E. Wakefield, NH. In addition to his wife Eleanor he was predeceased by a son Roger Nelson.
 

His funeral service will be held Wednesday January 31 at 11 am in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment with Military Honors will be held in the spring at the Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham, NH.
