Frances E. (Gerow)
Hovey, 84, of Linebrook Road, Ipswich, wife of the late George
R. Hovey, Jr., died Sunday May 8, 2011 in the Beverly Hospital
following her extended illness.
Born in Dracut
November 16, 1926, daughter of the late Raphael F. and Dora E. (Cossette)
Gerow, she was raised in Rowley and was a 1944 graduate of
Newburyport High School.
Married in 1947
to retired U.S. Navy and Air Force retired serviceman and
retired Vice President of the Ipswich Savings Bank, George R.
Hovey, Jr., the Hovey’s made their home in various locations
throughout the world before settling in Ipswich in 1966.
In addition to
raising her family she was employed for more than thirty
years as clerk and assistant manger at the former Brooks
Pharmacy in Ipswich. She was active in the Ipswich Care Giver
Group and was an avid participant in the weekly Ipswich Walking
Group prior to her failing health. She also enjoyed reading,
quilting, embroidery, crossword puzzles, home gardening and her
faithful companion, Tony the Cat.
Mrs. Hovey,
known as “Aunt Frannie” to her family and her extended family
and friends, will best be remembered as a devoted friend and
loving mother who always put other’s needs above her own.
She is survived
by a daughter, Marcia J. Cowan and her husband Lawrence H. of
Greenland, NH; a son, George R. Hovey, III and his wife Carol of
Piqua, OH; two grandchildren, Melissa Hovey and George R. Hovey,
IV both of OH; a brother, Joseph L. Gerow of Ipswich and many
nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her sister Beverly
Wilson of ME.; her sister Jeanette O’Connor of Ipswich; her
brother Raymond Gerow of CA; and her brother William Gerow of
Georgetown.
Her funeral
service will be held at noon, Friday, May 13, in the
Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich, followed
by interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Ipswich. Family
and friends are respectfully welcomed. An hour of visitation
will precede the service from 11 am to noon.

flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to the
