Frances A. “Pat” (Remsen) Dunn

Frances A. “Pat” (Remsen) Dunn, 79 of Story Street, Essex, wife of the late John R. Dunn, Jr., died Saturday, December 28, 2013 in the Beverly Hospital following a brief illness. 

Born in Beverly February 3, 1934, daughter of the late Albert and Marcella (Burgess) Remsen, she was raised in Beverly, active in equestrian riding and was a graduate of Beverly public schools.  Married in 1951, the Dunn’s made their home in Danvers, then at the Warren Estate in Essex where the Dunn’s were employed as caretakers for seven years. In 1962 they moved to her late Story Street address from where she raised her family.

For thirty-three years she was a school bus driver for the Essex School System while owning and operating the former Dunn Farm Stand in Essex.  Mrs. Dunn was on the Essex planning Board for thirteen years where she had served as chairman and served for several years on the Essex Conservation Commission. She attended the former United Methodist Church of Essex.  Mrs. Dunn enjoyed the farm life, helping her husband grow and sell corn and vegetables locally, and knitting and crocheting beautiful sweaters and hats for her family.   

She is survived by a son, David Dunn and his wife Bonnie of Essex; daughters, Debra Lane and her husband Howard of Essex and Diana Merchant of Rochester NH; seven grandchildren, David Dunn, Jr. and wife Jeannette of Haverhill; Daniel Dunn of Gloucester; Leanne Lane and Stephanie Lane of Essex; Michael Merchant III and wife Melissa, Melissa Merchant, Matthew Merchant, and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Lauryn and Madelyn Merchant, all of Rochester, NH.  She is also survived by a brother, Thomas B. Remsen of Wenham and several nephews and nieces.

She was the mother of the late James and John Dunn, III both formerly of Essex, sister of the late Marcella Kiley and Albert Remsen, Jr. formerly of Beverly, and mother-in-law of the late Michael K Merchant, Jr.

 

Her funeral service will be held 7 pm Monday, January 6 in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich  following a visitation from 4 to 7 pm.  Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center and Joslin Clinic, 1 Joslin Place, Boston, MA 02215.
