Evelyn “Sookie” (Saunders) MacIntyre, 83, wife of the late Gordon
W. MacIntyre, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016 in the Masconomet
Healthcare Center, Topsfield with her loving family by her side.
Born Boston June 12, 1933, she was the daughter of late Aaron and
Isabel (Cummings) Saunders. She was raised in Ipswich and Saugus
and graduated from Ipswich High School class of 1951. She was a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She married her high school
sweetheart “Gordy” having celebrated fifty-six years of marriage
upon his passing in 2009. They made their home in Ipswich for most
of their married lives where they loved to spend summers boating in
Ipswich Bay. Evelyn worked for many years at Cable Hospital until
its closure when she transferred to Beverly Hospital as the director
of admissions. Upon their retirement the couple moved to Sarasota
Florida where they enjoyed twelve wonderful years together.She was a
wonderful mother to her son Steve and his wife Pat MacIntyre of
Ipswich and to Tommy MacIntyre who predeceased her in 1997. She is
also survived by her grandsons, Tory and Tim MacIntyre;
granddaughters, Shannon Lewis and Brittany MacIntyre, all of whom
she adored and her four great grandchildren, Maddox, Violet, Miles
and Charlie MacIntyre. Her funeral service will be held 10 am,
Wednesday, December 21 in the Ascension Memorial Church, 31 County
St., Ipswich, followed by interment in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery,
Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting
hours will be 4 to 8 pm, Tuesday in the Whittier-Porter Funeral
Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Memorial contributions in her name may be
made to the Ascension Memorial Church.
