Dana Kasarda

Dana Kasarda, 90, reposed in the Lord Sunday, July 28, 2013 at her son's family home in Ipswich.

She was born in  Ukraine August 17, 1922 the daughter of the late Joseph and Katherine (Stepanenko) Plaka. Her early life was difficult, complicated by the events of history under the communist government in Russia.  The starvation campaigns under Stalin led to the death of her brother Nicholas and father Joseph, and countless members of their extended family.  Like many other refugees of her generation and place she was persecuted while trying to escape Stalin's goal of eradicating resistance in Ukraine.  Her final resting place in America brought her much happiness.  She was a proud and honorable citizen.

Her loving and supportive husband Emil died thirteen years ago.  She is survived by her son Vladislav, her daughter in law Marina of Ipswich and their three sons, Peter, Dimitri and Serge.  She lived to see her great grandchildren who presented her with much pleasure in the remaining time of her life.

May Dana, whose Baptized name is Evdokia, reside in our Lord's presence throughout eternity and may her memory be eternal.

Her funeral service was held Monday, noon in St. Sergius of Radonezh Russian Orthodox Church, 104 Lake Road,  Cottage Valley, NY.  Burial   followed by burial Tuesday  in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Arrangements were under the direction of the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home of Ipswich.
