Arthur Burton Weagle

Arthur Burton Weagle, 84, lifelong resident of
Ipswich, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving
family, on September 7, 2020 after a long illness.
Born
on April 19, 1936, Arthur was the son of Maude Hope and Charles Gordon
Weagle. He attended Ipswich public schools and graduated from Ipswich High
School in 1954. While in high school, Arthur was a member of the
basketball team, Glee Club, and football team. He lettered in basketball
his senior year, and in football both his junior and senior years; he was
also made a member of the All-Star Football Team. Artie, as he was
affectionately known, was also named “Class Blusher”. Upon graduating high
school, Arthur enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1954, and was
discharged as a Sergeant in 1957. He married his loving wife, Marilyn, on
June 20, 1958 shortly after being discharged. They enjoyed sixty-two years
making long-lasting memories.
Arthur
enjoyed ice fishing trips with his sons and grandsons, watching all Boston
sports, and sharing his love and knowledge of history. He also enjoyed
walking his beloved dog, Nugget, and spending time with his family.
He
was a member of numerous local organizations, including the Ipswich
Housing Authority, the John T. Heard Lodge where he was made a Master
Mason in 1963, was a proud member of the Aleppo Shrine and numerous other
Masonic bodies, as well as the IOC where he once served as the Commodore.
Arthur was also the owner of Broadway Variety (now known as DJ’s Variety)
from 1975-1985.
Arthur
is survived by his five sons, David of Auburndale, Florida, Charles,
James, and Chris of Ipswich, and Eric of Bridgton, Maine. He is also
survived by daughters-in-law, Laura, Lisa, Beth and Shannon, and
Christine. He was the beloved Papa of nine grandchildren, David and his
wife, Katie, Brian, Taryne, Catherine, Arianna, Evan and his wife,
Karolina, Michael, Hannah, and Cameron. Arthur also had five great
grandchildren, Will, Alex, Jake, Johnny, and Caroline. Arthur is also
survived by his sister, Jean, his cousin and lifelong friend, John
Clogston and wife, Linda, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his
parents, Arthur was predeceased by his siblings, Richard, Mary, Charles,
Charlotte, and Barbara.
Private
arrangements are under the direction of the Whitter-Porter Funeral Home of
Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be
made to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
