Adelaide M. (Bragdon) Jewett
Adelaide M. (Bragdon)
Jewett, 86, formerly of Newburyport and Falmouth
died Thursday September 21, 2017 in the Royal Cape Cod Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center in Bourne following a long illness. Addie
was married for fifty-four years to the late Walter A. Jewett, who
passed in 2006.
Born
in Ipswich April 1, 1931, the daughter of the late Frederick N. and
Anna (Joseph) Bragdon, she was raised in Essex and graduated from
Gloucester High School. In 1952, Walt and Addie were married in
Byfield, and raised their family on Cape Cod and on the North
Shore.
Addie was a
dedicated congregant of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newburyport.
She was an avid
seamstress, knitter, and baker, as well as a political activist,
having volunteered on Teddy Kennedy’s presidential campaign, among
others. She also enjoyed traveling in the company of family and
friends.
She is survived by,
five daughters, Dianne Jewett of Salisbury, Catherine Jewett and her
partner James Hathaway of N. Falmouth, Joanne Neely of Ormond Beach,
FL, Cynthia Dorsey and her husband Daniel of Ormond, FL, and
Victoria Jewett-Dionne and her partner Andrew Smith of Belgrade, ME;
a son, Charles Jewett of Hollyhill, FL; thirteen grandchildren and
seventeen great-grandchildren. She
was the mother of the late William W. Jewett.
An hour of
visitation at 10 am will precede her 11 am funeral service
Tuesday, September 26
in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6
High Street, Ipswich.
Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Interment will follow
in the Spring Street Cemetery, Essex.
